U.S. Airways Plane Lands in the Hudson River
Everyone was shaken up by the heroic landing made by the pilot of the US Airways flight out of LaGuardia headed to Charlotte, NC.
Flight 1549 had just taken off from New York‘s LaGuardia Airport at 3:26 p.m. today when it went down. The flight had 150 passengers and five crew — two pilots and three flight attendants.
The pilot landed the plane in the river after both engines were hit by a flock of birds. An air traffic controllers union official said the pilot reported a “double bird strike” less than a minute after takeoff and was headed for an emergency landing in New Jersey when he ditched into the Hudson River. Passengers were seen standing on the wings of the plane waiting for rescue crews.
At this time officials have reported that everyone has been accounted for, thanks to the quick thinking of the pilot. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the pilot told him he walked the plane twice to make sure everyone was off the plane, before exiting the aircraft.
The few people who were transported to the hospital had minor injuries–some are being treated for hypothermia.

I salute Captain Sullenberg III for having the presence of mind to do what has to be done fast. Pilots are a rare breed because they can perform such great feats: flying a plane and being responsible for a hundred plus lives. A big hurrah for all pilots. Just keep strong and alert for all of us, your passengers.
that is heroic pilot..

I saw some pretty neat videos of it this weekend. That pilot deserves a lot of credit, it is interesting that he actually owns a consulting firm that deals with airline safety…
Major props to the pilot. From what I’ve read, he prevented disaster with his quick thinking and piloting skills.
I think I saw that on twitter first. I appreciate all social media out there and glad to know that there were no causalities.
Pretty impressive. Kudos to the quick thinking skills of the pilot. If it wasn’t be for those, there would have been a big tragedy.
Nothing but a miracle… The captain deserves all the awards and accolades.
we can not express that situation as a miracle, the pilot deserves it all and today all the passengers are thanking only the pilot to give away all the lives of the passengers! Well done captain!
I salute Captain Sullenberg III for having the presence of mind to do what has to be done fast. He is a true HERO.
