The Up Side to the Recession

Have you noticed that your commute time is shorter?

I’ve never been blessed with a short commute.  It’s always been about an hour.  Living in central New Jersey my door to door commute is now one hour ten minutes on a good day.  Anyone that commutes regularly knows that there are very few good days.  With work being a bit slow now I usually get to leave pretty close to 5 PM.  In the old days I was never out of the office before 6 and then often not home until 7:30.

Yesterday I was out the door at 5 exactly.  I boarded a half empty bus at 5:10 and was inside my door and flopped on the couch by 6 PM.  My 70 plus minute commute had shrunk by ten minutes.

Is this a trend?  The folks that have lost their jobs have my sympathy but I am sure enjoying the speedier ride and additional legroom.

I actually have options in the morning on my train ride on where I should sit. This has never happened to me in my entire 10 yrs of living in New York!!!
