STRIKE! Italian Transport workers take their feet off the pedal

Posted by raymondm in By Bus, By Rail, By Subway, International, News

Transport workers in Italy have gone on strike, forcing the cancellation of thousands of bus, tram and subway lines and snarling traffic across the country.

Railway workers have been on a 24-hour strike since 9 p.m. Sunday. Local transport workers went on strike at 8:30 a.m. in Rome and 15 minutes later in Milan.

The railway company says some commuter trains will continue running. Labor unions says service will be guaranteed during the morning and evening rush hours.

The unions called the strikes to put pressure on upcoming contract renewal talks.

I was on the bus today and would like to share to you all about what I saw today. 2 kids are hanging on the ladder at the back of the bus, successfully dodging from conductors and they were hanging there for 3 stations!

You can see where they were hanging to in this picture I put here. By the way, just to make things clear, this is a Russian trolley bus.

And here is the picture of how these 2 kids were hanging there. And there is just a bit of space from the rear bumper for them to step on!

Here is the video I managed to take during this incidents. It happens quite often but I have to admit that this is the longest I have seen kids doing it and I think it is pretty cool. Lol. Well, they ran off when some drivers slow them and scolded them.

I was introduced here by Peanut and this post shall be dedicated to him =)

Tips for a better train/bus ride…

Current Mood:Mischievous emoticon Mischievous

1. Travel with your ipod or a book (something to keep you occupied). Please do not stare in my face or attempt to see what I’m doing on my ipod. Its bad manners! Also, for those of you who like to yap loudly on your cell phone—please I’m begging you—turn them off. We don’t need to listen to a one sided conversation about how your day went. As I said earlier, bring a book! Try reading and maybe you’d have something more interesting to talk about.
2. If the train or bus is crowed, please do not bring any open beverages on. It makes for a messy commute if there were to be any sudden stops. And it would really suck having to go to work with coffee stains on a Monday morning.
3. When reading a newspaper, especially if the train or bus is crowed—do not open it fully where the edge of the paper is in the person standing next to you eyeball!! For gods sake people!
4. If the train door opens to my stop and Joe and Jim are leaning against the doors blocking the passage way—don’t expect me not to push you out the way after I say “excuse me”. And don’t expect me to sorry!
5. SMILE, enjoy your day people!
