Mobile network to be accessible in Beijing subway
People who take Beijing subway lines 1 and 2 will soon be able to use their mobile phones on the train. Starting late June, both the lines will have access to cell phone networks, China News Service reports.
The civilian communication reconstruction project for subway line 1 and line 2 started on August 31, 2007. Now, engineers and technicians are debugging all the equipment to ensure the project is completed on time.
Construction of the Beijing subway started in 1965. Now, the city has five subway lines. Passengers using the newest line 5, which started operations late last year, have always been able to use their mobile phones on the train.

The underground L here in Chicago made it so people could use cell phones a while ago. The only catch is they took bids from all the carriers and only US Cellular was willing to pony up the cash. It’s not really a big deal since a large majority of the L is above ground.
I imagine more companies will agree to it when it gets cheaper.
Why? I never knew that cellphones are not allowed at subways. or i just don’t get the point.
^ Because in subways, there are no signals on the cellphones.
