Excuse me…

Ha! My last posting just brought to mind another pet peeve of mine- the music lovers.

Hey I am all for listening to your own type of music, especially on a long trip. How long do you really expect me to stare out the window anyway? That\’s if you are even seated close to a window to begin with. I have heard that some people want to block out the sound of the clanking noises of the train. To each his own.

And that is exactly my point! Your OWN! YOU should be the only one that is subjected to your choice of music. I really think that the powers that be have banned radio playing for a reason. Do you really think that the rest of the bus or train wants to listen to whatever drivel you decide is music? Does the function of earphones escape you? Oh my goodness, worse yet when they decide to “sing” along! Are you for real????? Mind you, I am sure they have heard themselves in the shower. American Idol – NOT! And this makes it much worse, because they don\’t care! Stares, questioning looks, looks of exasperation are deflected with a totally nonchalant attitude. Does anyone have any solutions to this problem?

I’ve recently purchased the Bose noise canceling headphones and they work wonders. Now all those singers are just amusing mimes on the train.

I agree with you that your music shouldn’t be loud enough for others to hear. Personally though, I don’t really like wearing headphones when I am around a lot of strangers. I find that it dulls my senses too much, which can be dangerous.

It’s been awhile since I’ve taken the time to listen to an age of music that was so influential to so many people. I am a person who loves music & has grown up surrounded by it for most of my life. When I was in my college days need to travel 17km away from my school about 30-40 mins listening my fave music on my walkman… man i miss those days…

I totally understand what you are saying Ameriglide. Safety is a concern, and I always make a point of having my music down low enough so that I will know if an announcement is being made on the train.
I sometimes wonder, though, if there is anything in place for persons who are disruptive or break the rules. For instance, the group of people who you know are just being a loud nuisance on the trains. I once went to another car on the LIRR because a group of girls with questionable sobriety were so excruciatingly loud. The conductor making the rounds noticed I had moved and asked if it was because of the girls. When I said yes, he replied “I don’t blame you!” I mean, isn’t something wrong with this scenario?

Music playing cell phones are possibly the worst invention of the 21st century.

I swear to god, if I hear another all-treble speakerphone rendition of this week’s hip hop crap I will start a fight I couldn’t win.

No offense to hip hop, we’re on good terms just only when it’s coming out of proper speakers.

You know what bugs me even more—the people who listen to their music with NO headphones and on top of that they are singing along. WTF

I absolutely loathe people who do this on the train or bus. Not so much bus actually, it’s kind of loud on there as is so I don’t notice as much.

Still though, I hate it!

Thanks for sharing… Your rant made me feel better! lol

I have had to tell people to relax in the past. Usually, I am passive to everyone on the train as I would like to get to my destination on time and safely. There are those times where strangers, for what ever reason, feel the need to try and make my commute unbearable. Drastic times call for drastic measures, I will tell someone to shut their mouth if it is truly annoying.

This brings to mind a friend’s account; he was on a bus from Memphis to Chicago (you can only imagine the passengers on this one), there was a man (drunk of course) who would not stop singing. After an hour on the road several people began yelling at him, with no response. I was told it got violent and the man finally stopped singing. Hopefully none of us have to deal with something like this. Regards!

Oh yeah! the treble that pierces your ears is a definite peeve. And to True Green Guide, i’m so glad to know that my rant made you feel better too! LOL! I don’t travel as much as I used to, so you guys probably have more “rants” in you than I do!

I too had a passion towards music. I like listening to light music sitting lonely in my beautiful house. Thanks.
