Automatic L Train in NY

Starting today, the L line trains will be fully controlled by a computerized system. Motormen working the line will remain on board and take over if problems arise. This system will allow NYC Transit to run trains closer together and more frequently. Which means the commuters will spend less time on the platform, hopefully! The computerized train system will first be used during overnight hours before the morning rush and then during off-peak periods. My only concern with this is safety issues. At least if there is a conductor he or she will be able to see if a passenger is running into the train at the very last second before the door closes, god forbid a child getting his fingers squeezed in the doorway.

This would be very cool, but I am also concerned with the safety issues. I just don’t trust something like a train to be controlled by a computer. Things like trains, automobiles and airplanes should never be completely computerized. Yes computers do not make mistakes but the people who program them do; there should always be a live person controlling things that have the factors of life and death with them. Regards!

I apologize for this being completely unrelated to your post, feel free to remove it, but some weeks/months ago, you made a post with a picture of some guy that kept his cat on his head.

Well this weekend, I saw a video of this guy walking around with the cat. The video is currently on youtube and is called “Top Cat,” although I just found it by searching for “cat head.”

Just thought it was pretty neat and might make a good follow up post for you ;)

I completely agree with Chicago hospitals. A movie called Eagle-eye comes to mind. I do not feel that our technology is secure enough to allow for this much automation.
