Listen up New Yorkers, the MTA is giving a discount for commuters this holiday season. Half fare on subways and local buses on weekends from Thanksgiving through New Years, including the 4-day Thanksgiving weekend, and every day from December 24 to January 1. Bonus days on any Unlimited Ride MetroCard activated between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. A special Holiday Unlimited MetroCard with up to 40 days of service for the regular price of 30 days. Bonus ten-trip or round-trip off-peak commuter railroad tickets with the purchase of a monthly, weekly, or ten-trip ticket during December. But this doesn’t compensate for the fact that our fares will be almost $3 one-way, hmmm!!!!

That’s great… I live in Chicago now and CTA gives penny (1 cent) rides on holidays such as Christmas but the deals offered above are great! Wish more major cities would do this!

I really wish I lived in an area that had adequate public transportation. We have busses available, which work fairly well for the city, but everything is so spread out that you almost have to have a car. My sister, on the other hand, has lived in NY for the past few years and hasn’t had a car since she went up there.
