NY Straphangers release the Ten Plagues of the NY Subway System

Everyday we New Yorkers ride the subways and have to face a whole lot of trials, just to get to work or get home. Yet however event though the conditions seem to get worse and worse (at certain stations mind you, cause it seems that some stations get a lot more attention) our fares get higher and higher. GO FIGURE!!!!
Well the people of the Straphangers Campaign came up with a list of the Ten Plagues that affect our subway system.
These are the subway curses of:
Personally i think they left out all the fermins that runaround like subway station mascots….
How about in your city? What are your Ten Plagues?

6 plague of traveling by bus in Volgograd (hard to make it to 10).
1 - smell of sweat
2 - crowds
3 - school kid’s big bags
4 - limited seats
5 - traffic jams
6 - chances of the electric rodes on the trollybus got detached from the ‘rails’.

This is not fun that there are that many things worng with the subway, but some places do not have one, something to think about. I live in California but think it would be interesting to live in New York.

It is definitely much better to have a subway (even with 10 plagues) than not having it at all. Believe me, when you depend on buses or trains you are much more restricted in your traveling possibilities than when you have metro by your side (I have used it when in St.Petersburg and I can compare:)
in micro buses and trains are:
1) peak hours when you can’t have a seat and need to stand
2) they always have a station too far from your destination point
3) too hot in summer and too cold in winter (or if the do have a heater on in winter it’ll work to hard and you’ll be sweaty and get cold at once when out of the train/bus)

Don’t forget bad musicians, sleeping bums, pickpockets, litter, screaming children, and people who jam the doors open for their friends.

Compare to our ’subway’
1. Overcrowding - Tends to happen only during peak hours. It’s a great thing that women’s shuttle is separated from the male

Actually, our ’subway’ doesn’t have too many plagues. Maybe because it’s only running for less than ten years.
