Hey Virginia! Move the F#@$ Over!!!
I do a lot of commutting between the New York and Washington DC areas. If there is one thing I see more than anything else, it is some clueless wonder camping out in the left lane driving the exact same speed and the person next to them. I call these people “Moving Roadblocks”. I have noticed in my travels that these “Moving Roadblocks” seem to have something very similar in common. It is not based on race or gender, as one might think. No…an overwhelming majority of these people have license plates from VIRGINIA!
SERIOUSLY VIRGINIA! Where did you learn to drive? If you see someone behind you that CLEARLY wants to go faster than you, MOVE OVER TO THE RIGHT!!!
Here are a few more characteristics of Moving Roadblocks:
How do you deal with a moving roadblock? Well, if I had a bazooka I would blast them clear to the great driving school in the sky. Unfortunately, I think the only way to deal with these types of drivers is through proper education. I don’t know about you guys, but I had months of Driver’s Education before I got my license. I learned the common rules of the road that are really nothing more than just plain old common sense. It seems obvious that this is something Virginians are completely without.
So it is up to us. I BEG YOU people! Please help me do whatever you can to spread these simple (and obvious) rules of the road.
Please SHARE THESE RULES as much as you can! If more people learn and live by them, we will not only have fewer Moving Roadblocks, but we will also have much safer and less frustrating commutes!

I agree with you 100%. But I don’t know if I’d be nice enough to turn on my high beams to let them know “hey buddy, I can walk faster than the speed of your driving.” I’m one of those who honks until they move and then give them the evil eye, LOL. I love the horn. And what’s even worse, is when all lanes are occupied by synchronized drivers going no more than 40mph. Go figure!

The rules listed above are also becoming laws in some states. I know Colorado will bust you for driving in the left lane for no reason. Hopefully this will start alerting people to the fact that just owning a car does not give you the right to impede the life of everyone else.

I have lived in various states along the east coast. From New York down to Georgia. I must say, I agree with you completely. Virginia is by far, the worse state in general that I have ever seen in their driving skills. It is frustrating to say the least.

I am so happy someone agrees with me! I just don’t get it why Virginia is so much worse than the other states? Where they taught differently? Where they taught anything at all? It would be curious to learn what the state requirements are for getting a license.

I have not been to Virginia but I sure feel what you are saying. I hate stupid people on the road. Their stupidity makes other drivers’ lives in danger.

Haha - I was just thinking this makes no sense then I remembered you drive on the other side of the road to us in the UK!

I do share most of the views as you are although I’m living in the eastern side of the globe (asia). I hate arrogance & negligence drivers as they thought they are racing in the racing track.

I know of people who drive like this on purpose to piss off drivers.

I live in Virginia and I hate DC traffic. I’m not a left lane hog, but I don’t drive 90 on the beltway either. I hate it when people ride your bumper because they think that they can somehow push you to go faster. If you are driving 10-15 miles/hr over the limit already and are in the right hand lane then what good does it do for some manic bozo to get in your backseat? (I’m not saying you do this) IMHO, leaving 2 inches between yourself and the car in front of you while you are both driving 65+ is asking to cause a pile up. And, while you may think it’s the person observing the speed limit in front of you’s fault, I can assure you the cops will ticket the one who runs their vehicle into the back of that person every time. Peace.

Hi Karen. I think its safe to say that the DC beltway is always an exception. Every lane is ALWAYS full and EVERYONE drives like a maniac. In response to your comment though, whenever possible, if you stick to the right lanes, then the left lanes are open to those who wish to drive faster. I am not condoning reckless driving, mind you. But if those who are going to drive fast anyway can stick to the left lanes because slower traffic stays to the right, it will be that much easier for police to pull them over.
