Working from home may be an option

Have you ever heard the phrase “Your commute is killing you?”  Well, if you haven’t, listen up.  And no, it’s not the doughnuts with cream filling you this morning or the stale coffee you bought from the vending machine that is now giving you acid reflux.  But rather the steady increase in transit fare, which is now $2 (might be more in a year or two), the polluted air your breathe everyday (especially those of us who have really long commutes to and from work).  There are people I know who commute two hours just to get to the city.  That to me is really absurd.  By the time you get to work, you’re exhausted and the day hasn’t begun yet!  But people do it just to live in nice fancy big homes.  Believe it or not, these things really stress us out and put our health at risk.  Not to mention, they drive us crazy as well.  But we do it anyway.

Amen…I’m working at home but the downsides can be lack of social interaction. Just make sure you hang out with friends and such…2 freaking hours of commuting you say? Wow…I would live in a trailer before doing that.

I work at home two days a week but otherwise I am one of these “2+ hour commuters”. The only difference is, I walk to the bus, take a bus to the train, then walk to work from there. From door to desk it takes 2.75 hours. The beauty of my commute is I can read, sleep, listen to podcasts, watch movies…all in a stress free environment. I love it.

Commuting to work can definitely be a drag (especially when there’s a lot of traffic). I’m a big fan of flexible hours and the option to work from home every now and then.

I work from anywhere there’s a comfortable chair and an internet connection (alternatively, good 3G signal)

The best part of this lifestyle that it let’s me travel at my leisure. Whenever I get bored of my neighborhood (guaranteed once per month) I can get on the train, plane, or the chinatown bus :-) and go bother a friend with a friendly couch in a land far, far away.

I hope that the advances in communication technology will let more people telecommute to their jobs!

It is definitely better to work at home. Can even contribute less in polluting the earth. But if I tell this to my future boss, I think he would want me to work and eat and sleep inside the office!!!
